there is something gentle in the way a city falls asleep–
closing its coral eyes in a lengthy blink
the trees growing black and still
there is something uncertain in the way a city falls
asleep– the sun and the moon blinking at one another
selfishly searching for another room to fill
there is something strange in the way a city falls asleep–
the sun tripping and tumbling down the sky
and disappearing over the hill
there is something furious in the way a city falls
asleep– how the colors rage from one shade to another
as if desperate for one more moment of thrill
there is something lethal in the way a city falls
asleep– the night reaching out its inky fingers
in search of another day to kill.
Tamara Bašić (she/her) lives in Croatia, where she is frequently trying to pluck gorgeous sentences from her thoughts and write them into poetry. She can also often be found reading, trying to become a polyglot, staring at the sky in awe, and viciously daydreaming.
