Now Reading
the eyes of Omayra Sánchez in the San Pietro Square

the eyes of Omayra Sánchez in the San Pietro Square

the pope is praying on his own in the San Pietro Square
the eyes of Omayra Sánchez, the only spectators
their sclera darker than the oceans’ abyss
as their foundation is crumbling
under the little girl’s body stuck in lava and mud

don’t forget to get it all on tape, cameramen,
tighten your nostrils a little
soon it will all be over
the marine snow will fall anew
over our wrinkled bodies
