Brush dust from memories
that live inside muscle.
Question whether root
or bone. Touch artifacts
of firsts and lasts. Turn them
this way and that
in the light.
While there is time,
search yourself for subterranean
lakes. There is passage
in a place between the rocks.
Don’t speak as if discovery were ever clean or easy
or done.
There are always other eras
in the strata
below.
