Madelyn Furman is an English writing student at McNeese State…
i’m holding grains of sand in my hands
each one is tiny, microscopic
every day, another grain is dropped into my open palms
i try to keep them from falling,
hanging on to every single one
as if it’s my sole responsibility
my hands are heavy
so i let a few fall through the cracks
down into the dirt where they will stay
they aren’t gone, just under my feet now
so i say
i’ll see you when you’re lavender
