Jennifer Skogen’s work has appeared in Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet,…
The moon has forgotten us,
here, in our bed of cedar boughs.
And the stars above dream heavy,
fiery dreams of beginnings
too long ago to matter,
tonight, to those of us in love
with our own shadows.
Come, follow me deeper
into this forest of our own
making. Sunlight beget us,
but darkness unspools us:
unravels the knot
that tethers our hearts
to the earth. We are lanterns
filled with moths who burn endlessly,
a thousand fragments of desire–
living stars who know
how to set ourselves alight
with the weight of longing.
How to make the universe curve
around our outstretched hands.
