you were brooding
the first time I saw you–
under the clear skies.
you looked like
vengeance sent from the
heavens
me, demure under wisteria’s shade,
watched you from afar,
fleeting dreams of
adventure and movie
scenes running through my
mind
when you started speaking to
me with a lilt in your voice
that I wasn’t expecting,
my heart, the traitor,
felt inclined to listen forever
I knew you wouldn’t be
a forever boy,
but a passing storm,
yet the petrichor you’d leave
was enough of an excuse for
me.
Tamara Bašić (she/her) lives in Croatia, where she is frequently trying to pluck gorgeous sentences from her thoughts and write them into poetry. She can also often be found reading, trying to become a polyglot, staring at the sky in awe, and viciously daydreaming. Her work is featured or forthcoming in Southchild Lit, Ice Lolly Review, celestite poetry, Lavender Lime Literary, fifth wheel press, and elsewhere.
