Moonrise

Moonrise

this is how
the moon breaks over
the black water: one lip of fire
at a time as the curved earth yields
to her wild carnelian dream & we sit fixed
as stars to watch her lift the red hood bit by bit
& reveal a luminous womb her blood-orange belly
huge & desirous for more the way the brain wheels
with want: more pockets for sea-glass & stones more
swallows winging amid sea-cliffs more moons (why
do we get just one when Jupiter gets ninety-two?)
now she hurls her diamond trail over the rest-
less deep as she slips her full body free she
is giving birth to herself no apology
& complete she is here she is
all she needs
