Seán Mackel

Based in the northwest of Ireland, Seán is a writer, visual communicator, and artist. His creative practice is concerned with the environment, language, and the politics of place. He was a graphic designer before pursuing a career in design education in Ireland, Germany, and Australia. His short story collection, The River was longlisted for the Frank O’Connor Short Story Award. Other stories have been broadcast on RTE radio. His poetry has appeared in Poetry Ireland Review, Cyphers, HU, and in chapbook form by Lapwing publications. His visual work has been exhibited at galleries in Belfast and Derry. An aspiring children’s picture-book maker, Seán holds an MA in Creative Writing from QUB, a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Arts, and an BA in Graphic Design from UUB. A member of The Society of Authors, Seán has a hidden physical disability and identifies as an under-represented creator. Annually he walks the Camino.
