The following piece is an excerpt from Glenn Bach’s Atlas, a long poem about place and our (mis)understanding of the world. Atlas began in 2003 as a sound art project, but has since evolved into an open-ended long poem.


 Oak trees the centerpiece     each place was owned  by the community                               the islands     the acorn     the seeds                          the fire     the sea lanes     chia & red                                                                                           maids                    Limuw to                                    Yaangna (on the Glendale                             Narrows)   in the supernatural world of the sky eagle hawk sun & coyote                                                so that                                                   everything falls down                                                                                             into this world.
