Forgotten Innocence

Impressionist painting of a woman with a pink parasol in a garden of foxgloves

Ornamental grass blooms
and foxglove have always
pulled my touch.
An innocence
in their softness wakes
an innocence
that my hands
have long forgotten
how to express
except in letting the soft blooms
of tall grasses and the gently flocked
petals of poisonous shrubs
slip through eager fingers.
