Tumbleweed rolls
over a yellow field,
crosses the black tar road.
Raven on a pole
eyes the high desert scrub;
brush mouse scuttles.
Air hardens to grey;
rain pelts.
Black birds swirl
over sand, lime flowers,
Joshua trees that grasp the sky.
A hint of sun breaks clouds;
the field, a lake of gold.
A tree stands lone,
bent in the wind.
