Midsummer, As If

Midsummer, As If

Landscape painting of mountains in a gradient of colors ranging from green, red, to blue

Before midsummer stokes up, smolders,
heat-smog rising, buffering & blurring the Organs,
each stirs under rock, in-and-out of holes,
rattler, pocket mouse, high-hipped jackrabbit
on stock-still alert at Bigfoot’s sweet tater toss,
clichéd jetblack ravens strutting on stickpins,
beyond grief, remorse, prowl pickings for leftovers,
take-aways, plucking out earth-warm entrails as daybreak
airs fairground, mesa peak, ever more flatbed scrub & brush,
wind-willow catkins shredding against an absolute blue,
as if this land, loosening bowel, tongue, ear, eye, as if this day,
each day thereafter, as if anything meant something other,
or more, than that thing itself happening again, again, again.
